Description

George Pierce (1805-1835) of Baldwin wrote to his brother Josiah Pierce, an 1818 graduate of Bowdoin College, about Bowdoin's freshman class of which George was a member.

"Our class I expect is going to be a good one . . .," he wrote. His class, 1825, has been called the "famous" class of 1825. Its graduates include Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Nathaniel Hawthorne, among others.
