Description

This room in the Wadsworth-Longfellow house in Portland was used by the Wadsworth and Longfellow families as a parlor, sitting room, dining room, law office and china closet.

The poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, who grew up here, found it a quiet place to read, write and study.

The photo was taken after Anne Longfellow Pierce died and left the house to the Maine Historical Society.
