Description

The pharmacy, laboratory and examining office at the Maine State Sanatorium for Pulmonary Diseases in Hebron.

The privately operated sanatorium, which opened in 1904, focused on fresh air, rest, and high-protein food for treatment of tuberculosis.

The "open air treatment" did not include use of drugs, other than those used "in every day disturbances," according to a promotional brochure.
