Description

A page from a promotional brochure about the privately operated Maine State Sanatorium for Pulmonary Diseases shows the outdoor features of the facility.

Fresh air was an important aspect of the treatment for tuberculosis and the facility at Greenwood Mountain in Hebron was known for "the dryness of its atmosphere, the absence of fogs, and the large amount of sunshine compared to many other portions of New England."
