Mohawk purse, ca. 1880

Contributed by Hudson Museum, Univ. of Maine

Description

This purse's floral motifs reflect a beading tradition that extended throughout the Northeast.

It probably was made in the Niagara Falls area and may have come to Maine as a souvenir or may have been sold by a Maine Indian along with locally produced novelty goods.
