Snowshoe, ca. 1900

Contributed by Hudson Museum, Univ. of Maine

A Native American snowshoe, which allowed the wearer to walk on the surface of snow that was not hard packed by cold and wind. Snowshoes distribute the body weight over a larger surface area so the wearer does not sink into the snow.
