Description

From left to right are Julia F. Mitchell, Newell Francis, the former Penobscot Chief, Passamaquoddy Governor William Neptune, and Margaret Neptune, who posed at Deering Oaks Park in Portland as part of the observance of the centennial of Maine statehood in 1920.

Wabanaki people set up a village at the park and wore traditional regalia.

This image was a part of a series of photos taken for the July 3, 1920 edition of the Portland Evening Express.
