Description
This aerial photograph was taken from the first barnstorming plane to land in Island Falls. The plane was a World War I surplus Curtiss biplane, JN4, “Jennie."
To the left of the picture are the tannery buildings, the log hauler bridge and, above that, the Northern Woodenware mill.
The photograph was inscribed to Delmont Emerson and signed by George W. Maxim, the photographer, who promoted aerial photography and use of planes to search for fires. He died in a plane crash in September 1927.
