Hermon Pond, ca. 1914

Contributed by Hermon Historical Society

Description

Hermon Pond is a 461 acre pond in the southwest corner of Hermon. Hermon's first settlement, first school district and many businesses grew up around the pond between 1855 and 1935. They included several stores, hotels and sawmills, a creamery and cheese factory, blacksmith, golf tee mill, railroad station and post office. In the winter, ice was cut from the pond, stored with sawdust insulation from the sawmills, and used to ship milk cans from the creamery west by rail.
