This portion of the St. John River in Aroostook County is a work in progress by cartographer Alexander W. Longfellow (1814-1901) of Portland.
He worked with the Northeast Boundary Survey, mapping the northern border of Maine to help settle a boundary dispute between the U.S. and Canada.
