Albert Moore Spear (1852-1929), a native of Madison, graduated from Bates College in 1875, then studied law with Albert R. Savage, a future Chief Justice of the Maine Supreme Court.
He practiced law in Hallowell, then Gardiner, where he was City Solicitor. He was elected to the Maine Legislature from 1883 to 1886.
He was elected to the Maine Senate in 1891 and 1893 and served as president during the latter term.
He was a justice on the Maine Supreme Court from 1902 to 1923.
