Description
The Bowdoin College Campus in Brunswick with, from left, Maine Hall, King Chapel and Appleton Hall.
Maine Hall, Bowdoin's first dormitory, was built in 1807 and named "Maine Hall" after Maine became a state in 1820.
The building burned on March 4, 1822. The interior was gutted. Bowdoin College had no insurance on the building.
Maine Hall was restored and burned again February 17, 1836. It was rebuilt for $11,100.
