Musician Hermann Kotzschmar of Portland, in a portrait probably taken shortly after he arrived in the United States from Germany. It is probably the first photograph taken of him.
He came to Portland and became an important musical figure in the city, serving as organist at the First Parish Church and conductor of the Haydn Association.
