Marguerite Yourcenar, Northeast Harbor, 1980

Description

Marguerite Yourcenar was the first French woman author to be admitted into the French Academy in 1980.

She spent much of her life in her home, Petit Plaisance, in Northeast Harbor on Mt. Desert Island, and died there in 1987.

The text accompanying this 1980 photograph was written in 1987 as an obituary.
