Description

Two planes on Old Orchard Beach "runway" - the hardpacked sand at low tide on June 2, 1929.

The Yellow Bird (L'Oiseau Canari), a French plane, was preparing to attempt a flight across the Atlantic. It was supposed to be a race with the American Green Flash, but the latter crashed in a soft spot on the sand was unable to compete.
