Description
Millions of Maine paving blocks were shipped to our nation's cities during the early 1800s to the early 1920s. Each city had a specific size paving block, but the proper size was determined chiefly upon the foothold for horses.
The pointed end of the hammer was used to excavate a hole into which to set the block. Each block would receive at least three hard blows with the hammer head, one at each end and one in the center to set the stone in place.
