Description

Gunter's Mill in Steep Falls lay beside the Saco River and was owned by W.E. Gunter and Sons.

It was an eight-foot mill, meaning that the mill produced eight-foot lengths of lumber.

Merrill Furman was foreman. Sometimes three crews worked around the clock.

Building lumber was produced with slab wood to give away, and bundled up "stickings" for firewood. During the river drives booms were kept out in the river.
