Soldering lamp, ca. 1840

William Webb, a brass maker in Warren, made this soldering lamp about 1840. He probably removed the bottom from an oil lamp to make this lamp used for soldering. The large bulb at the top was the heat source, with a flame coming through an opening in the top.
