Description
Col. James C. Jensen received the Distinguished Flying Cross in recognition of his actions while still a captain in 1941, when he piloted one of the B-17 Flying Fortresses of the 19th Bombardment Group which made the first mass flight from California to Hawaii, pioneering future operations of land based airplanes in adverse weather.
The medal was presented by the outgoing commander of transport base, Col. S.F. Landers, who had been reassigned overseas, Col. Jensen replaced him as commandant of Dow Field.
