Jonathan Morgan coffee mill, 1840

Jonathan Morgan, a Portland inventor, writer and lawyer, patented this coffee mill in 1840.

The label affixed next to the coffee grinder reads, "Coffee Mill/Patented by/Jonathan Morgan/of Portland, Me./1840/Presented by John S. Russell."

On the mill is written, "J. Morgan's/patent,/Portland,/Maine/1840/ Warranted."

Morgan died in 1871.
