Description

Mary Galgovitch (far left), worked in the Worumbo Mill weaving textiles from the age of 14 until 70 years old. The other three women in the weaving room of the Worumbo are unidentified.

At the turn of the twentieth century, the Worumbo employed approximately 340 men and 110 women.

The Worumbo Mills, situated on the Androscoggin River in downtown Lisbon Falls, were known for their production of fine woolen cloth. The mill received international recognition for the production of Sterling cloths, pure wool weaves delicate enough for women's gowns.
