Discharge certificate of David Small, 1863

Description

Private David Small was a member of the 5th Maine Infantry during the Civil War. Private Small was native of Danville.

The certificate reads as follows:
"To Whom it May Concern:
Know ye, That David Small a
Private of Captain Frank L. Demonts'
company, (C) fifth regiment of Maine Infantry
volunteers who enrolled on the 2nd day of May
one thousand eight hundred and sixty one to serve
three years or during the war is hereby Discharged
from the service of the United States this
twenty-first day of December 1863, at __ in the
field Virginia by reason of re-enlisment __ Volunteers.
(No objection to his being reenlisted is know to exist.*)
Said Private David Small was born in Danville
in the State of Maine, is 27 years of age,
5 feet 8 3/4 in high, Dark complexion, Hazel eyes,
Auburn hair, and by occupation when enrolled a farmer.
Given at Brandy Station, Va this 27th day of
December 1863.

*This sentence will be erased should there be anything in the conduct or physical condition of the soldier rendering him unfit for the Army.
