Description

John Neal, Portland writer, arts critic and civic activist, wrote to writer and public speaker Elizabeth Oakes Smith, a native of Maine, about his son and Oakes Smith's children. Both had sons who joined Col. William Walker's expeditions into Nicaragua in 1856.
