Edwin Arlington Robinson, 1888
Description
In 1888 Hallowell-born photographer George F. McIntosh took portraits of the graduating class of Gardiner High School, including Edwin Arlington Robinson (1869-1935), a native of Head Tide. Robinson became one of America's most celebrated poets. Though he won three Pulitzer Prizes, he is remembered largely for his short, dark, psychological "Tillbury Town" poems that are based on people, places and incidents from the Gardiner of Robinson's youth.
