1902 Holsman automobile

Contributed by Seal Cove Auto Museum

Description

A 1902 Holsman, built by the Holsman Automobile Co., Chicago, Illinois, from 1902 - 1910.

The granddaddy of all highwheelers, the Holsman was sold in considerable numbers in the midwest.

The Holsman drive was at first by a 7/8-inch manila rope, but was changed to a chain braided over with manila and steel wire at first, later a naked chain alone. Primeval brakes acted directly against the steel tires and were hand operated.

The engine was a two cylinder opposed.
