Spencer, Browning and Rust sextant, ca. 1830

Description

A sextant is used to determine the angle between the horizon and the line of site of an object such as a star, a planet, or the sun, and the horizon. This angle allows sailors to calculate the longitude and latitude of a ship.

This sextant was made by Spencer, Browning and Rust of London, England in the 1830s.
