Description
Ticket for nighttime admissions to the Oxford County Fair, held each September at the Oxford County Agricultural Society's grounds at Norway/Paris.
The ticket is unused and was probably issued sometime between the late 1940s and 1956.
The "night gate" admitted people to watch the vaudeville shows and other entertainment that were presented at night. The shows were presented on a stage located on the infield side of the home stretch at the finish line, opposite the center of the main grandstand.
This in turn was on the opposite side of the racetrack itself and at some distance from the midway. There were no ticket vending machines. Tickets were purchased from a ticket supply house in large rolls, and attendants simply tore off from the roll the number of tickets the buyer wanted
