Maine architect John Calvin Stevens helped popularize the shingle style house.
With Albert W. Cobb, he wrote Examples of Domestic Architecture in 1889.
Stevens and his firm designed hundreds of buildings throughout Maine, using the Queen Anne, Richardson Romanesque and Colonial Revival styles in residential, commercial and institutional settings.
