Description

"An 'otter' trawler, the Gloucester out of Gloucester, Massachusetts, was built in Essex, Massachusetts, in 1919 for the Cape Ann Trawling Company. She was 164 feet long, 488 gross tons, and fully equipped by the Portland Company. 'Otter' refers to the type of trawling gear using 'doors' to keep the mouth of the net open." --Fletcher, David H.
