Benedict Arnold letter to Capt. Farnsworth, 1775
Contributed by Maine Historical Society
Benedict Arnold wrote to Capt. Farnsworth about the provisioning of the expedition to march on Quebec by the American Army on September 29, 1775.
Arnold led a march through Maine to Quebec in an attempt to oust the British from the city and hence from Canada.
During the march through the wilderness, the soldiers encountered leaking boats, bad weather, damaged and dwindling supplies, and the difficulty of the terrain.
Only about half the troops survived the march. Their siege of Quebec failed.
