Description

Photograph of Abraham Bogdonove painting a portrait of Warren Lumbard on Monhegan Island.

Abraham Bogdanove, a native of Minsk, Russia, was a landscape painter, portraitist, muralist, and art teacher. He began painting at Monhegan in 1918.

Warren P. Lombard (1855-1939) was a biology professor at the University of Michigan. He did etching as a serious hobby and went to Monhegan in the 1920s and 1930s. At first he worked in the Cabot studios on Fish Beach, and then he set up an etching press in the Chadwick barn which he used and shared with other interested printmakers.
