Description
A hand-painted lantern slide shows the view from the Wadsworth-Longfellow house in Portland to the Longfellow Garden as it was in the mid to late 1930s.
Gladys Pratt of the American Museum of Natural History in New York painted this and other lantern slides that the Longfellow Garden Club used in talks about the house and garden.
The club formed in 1924 to restore and maintain the garden behind the home that Peleg Wadsworth built in 1785 and that his granddaughter, Anne Longfellow Pierce, donated to the Maine Historical Society in 1901 when she died.
