The Wadsworth-Longfellow House with the Maine Historical Society Research Library in the background, ca. 1920. Peleg Wadsworth, a Revolutionary War general, built the house in 1785-86. It was the childhood home of Wadsworth's grandson, poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
