Louis Antoine Godey (1804-1878) was a French immigrant who learned printing and publishing by working for newspapers.
In 1839, he began publishing Godey's Lady's Book, one of a number of magazines aimed at women. It featured literature, domestic and social advice, and fashion and was highly influential.
