Contributed by Brick Store Museum

Description

This two piece pearl gray silk taffeta wedding dress was worn by Mary A. Maling at her marriage to Augustus E. Stevens in 1872.

The dress includes a bodice with a round banded neck, dolman sleeves with shirring at the elbow and ruffled cuffs with lace and net undercuffs.

The full skirt has two shirred side panels and three swags on the front, with a full train gathered at the waist and covered buttons on the front closure.

It is shown here in the display entitled "Godey's Ladies: An Exhibition of 19th Century Dresses held at the Brick Store Museum in 1997.

Godey's Lady's Book, which inspired this exhibition's title, was one of the most popular ladies' books of the 19th century. Each issue contained poetry, beautiful engravings and articles of interest to the women of that time.
