Description
At the dawn of the 20th century, Bangor boasted a population of 21,850 making it the third largest city in Maine after Portland and Lewiston. This view looking up Hammond Street shows the tower of the Samuel T. Hersey Memorial Building (Old city Hall) built in 1893-94. An open trolley car vies with wagons, buggies and pedestrians just before the arrival of the automobile.
