This map of the Bath waterfront shows the Governor William King home (here listed as belonging to C.W. King) and the King Wharf.

By this 1851, William King, 83, had fallen on hard times, sold most of his property in Bath, and lost most of his merchant fleet.

Prior to 1830, his holdings along the waterfront were far more extensive and his shipping and banking businesses were thriving. Upon his death in 1852, much of his estate was sold at auction and his property on Front Street sold to the federal government.

When the King mansion was moved to Front and Vine streets, it was replaced by a Federal Building housing the Customs Collector's offices and the Post Office.
