Description

Edmund S. Muskie, a native of Rumford, joined the Navy during World War II. This photograph was probably taken in Rumford around 1942-43; he was later promoted to lieutenant.

Muskie, a lawyer, later served as governor, U.S. Senator from Maine, as Secretary of State. He was a Democrat.
