Letter from William Bayley to mother, October 23, 1780

William Bayley wrote to his mother from Totawa on October 23, 1780, to tell her he had not reenlisted in the Continental Army as she apparently suspected. He was standing in for a man who paid his army service. He told his mother he would be home in two months.
