William Bayley, a soldier in the Continental Army, wrote to his mother, Jean Bayley of Falmouth, from Hartford on October 30, 1778. He wrote that he was not sure where his brigade would spend the winter and he suggested his mother go to the local committee to get reimbursed for shoes and stockings she sent him. He expressed concern for her lack of money and goods.
