Railroad Tie Inspector's Kit

Contributed by Oakfield Historical Society

Description

These tools were used to inspect, grade and count the track ties when they were delivered to the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad. The red handled tool had a pick at one end of the tool's head to test the quality of the tie and the inspector's number on the other (facing) end to accept the tie. The grey handled tool has an "X" on the facing end and an "O" on the far end of the tool head. The counting tool recorded the count of the different grades.
