Description

The Bangor and Aroostook "Big Hook" wrecking crane is clearing a B&A "ice reefer" freight car that had been carrying bulk potatoes. Bangor and Aroostook had the second largest fleet of ice reefers in the nation. The ice reefer could be cooled with ice during the summer or heated during the winter to keep produce from freezing. In the off season some of the fleet would be leased to southern railroads.
