Toy Len Goon, American Mother of the Year, 1952

Toy Len Goon, a native of Canton, China, married Dogan Goon of Portland and came to the U.S. in 1922. She and her husband had eight children.
When he died in 1940, she continued to raise the children (the oldest of whom was 17) and operate the family laundry at Woodfords Corner, Portland.
She was named American Mother of the Year in 1952 and was honored by a parade in New York's Chinatown.
