Description

This view of the south side of Main Street showed H. T. Weeks & Co. store and post office with hitching posts; Hiram E. Howe's house at 94 Main Street; Solomon Hopkins' house at 98 Main Street; and the Coombs Blacksmith Shop across the bridge.

Signs on the store advertised Millinery, Post Office Coopers Mills, and Lowney's Chocolates. Walter M. Lowney, from Bangor, began making chocolate bonbons in Massachusetts in the early 1880s and the company later became famous for its chocolates.

Previous owners of this building were William Clifford (1845-1891), who had a tin shop and was postmaster 1886-1889; and Aaron B. Noyes (1837-1906), who bought the building for his second term as postmaster 1889-1893 and changed it to a grocery store.
