These two pages from the Orderly Book of the North Company of Infantry Bath, First Regiment, First Brigade, Eleventh Division of the Massachusetts Militia list the men who volunteered to defend the coast of the District of Maine from the British threat prior to and during the War of 1812.
Major General William King of Bath was commissioned by the General Court of Massachusetts in 1808 to recruit and command local troops of this division.
In the early stages of the War, King and other merchants continued to trade with the British under protection of licenses and by registering their vessels in neutral countries.
