Description
The Kennebunkport drawbridge spans the Kennebunk River and connects Lower Village of Kennebunk to Kennebunkport's Dock Square. Two unknown men posed with a view of the mouth of the Kennebunk River in the background.
Over the years, several shops were located directly on the bridge including a candy store. On March 1, 1896 a freshet carried away the drawbridge. It took a year to construct a new bridge which opened April 17, 1897. Unfortunately, this new version was washed away again in 1900. In 1933, a modern steel swing bridge replaced the drawbridge.
