Mary F. Fall Civil War pension request, Lebanon, 1890

Contributed by Maine Historical Society

Description

Stephen Fall, 41, of Lebanon Center wrote a letter to Edwin H. Hosmer at the U.S. Pension Bureau office in Portland on behalf of Mary F. Fall, his mother.

Mrs. Fall sought a pension because another son, Isaac Fall of Co. G of the 1st Massachusetts Cavalry, was killed at Aldie Gap, Virginia. Stephen Fall wrote that his mother lived "on a little farm of 2 cows and one horse" and the latter was not paid for. Mary Fall was 84 years old. They did not have the money, he said, to hire a housekeeper or maid to help her.
