Description
This floating apparatus, called a headworks, was part of an early method used to move booms of logs along lakes.
Lumberjacks placed anchors ahead of the raft of logs. Animals or people turned the central capstan on the headworks. This rotating action wound in the rope, moved the headworks, and towed the boom toward the anchor. The whole process was then repeated over and over, slowly moving the payload of logs down the lake.
This abandoned headworks was beached on the shore of Ambejejus Lake.
