Description

Marie Chabo, a stenographer for a railroad; and Helen Carroll, a clerk for Kepp-Baertsch Co., both of Sheridan, Wyoming, stand on the running board of a taxi in Portland in July 1925.

The Maine Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs and the Portland BPW hosted the convention. The Portland Club was formed in 1920.

Over 2,300 state delegates convened in Portland from July 11th through July 18th. The Portland Evening Express closely tracked the activities with daily articles and photos. Delegates attended lectures, visited local sites, and met Governor Brewster.

According to the July 13, 1925 front page of the Portland Evening Express Miss Adelia Pritchard, President of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs, opened the convention by exhorting members to "close and lock the door of Personal Ambition, Petty Spite and Jealousy and open the doors of Friendship, Love, Co-operation, Faith, Goodwill, and Opportunity."
