Description
Anne Longfellow Pierce (1810-1901) lived in the Wadsworth-Longfellow house from her birth to her death, except from the time she married George W. Pierce in 1832 until his death in 1835. At some time, she drew a sketch of the house and its surroundings as they looked during her childhood.
The sketch was found in the house after her death and this reproduction created. She wrote on the original, "No street between Congress Street and Back Cove, but Cumberland Street (then Back Street) -- all open pasture below Cumberland Street from Washington Street -- all along up to what is still called -- Deering Pasture, with common board fence on Cumberland Street and only here and there a house -- very few above Preble Street."
The sketch probably dates to 1823.
